Skilled Migrant Visa

CAN YOU GET ENOUGH POINTS FOR A SKILLED MIGRANT VISA

In order to lodge an application to enter Australia as a Skilled Migrant you need the meet the basic requirement which includes being 45 years of age or under, speaking English, having a post secondary qualification and a job on the Skills Occupation List and work experience.


In addition as a Skilled Migrany you currently need 120 points(exceptions to this are detailed below)

Age , English Language, Skill , Work Experience, Spouse Skills, Bonus Points , Occupation in Demand, Sponsored by a relative, Regional Australia, and Australian Qualifications

PASS MARK & POOL MARK

If you do not achieve the pass mark but have an amount equal to or greater than the pool mark (70 points for skilled-independent applications)your application will be put into the reserve pool for a period of up to 2 years.

If during this time the pass mark is reduced and your points are equal to or greater than the new pass mark then your application will be processed.

Should you still be in the reserve pool at the end of the 2 year period then your application will be rejected.


AGE

The following points are awarded for falling within the following age brackets at the time of application.

18-29 years= 30 points
30-34 years = 25 points
35-39 years = 20 points
40-44 years = 15 points


ENGLISH LANGUAGE

The following points are awarded for your ability to speak English.

Competent English = 20 points
Vocational English = 15 points


SKILL

The following points are awarded if your occupation is on the Skilled Occupation List.

Most occupations where training is specific = 60 Points
General Professional Occupations = 50 Points
General Skilled Occupations. = 40 Points

The level of points available for each occupation is listed on Form 1121i – Skilled Occupations List.


WORK EXPERIENCE

The following points are awarded for work experience.

Applicants who nominate a 60 point occupation and have worked in your nominated occupation, or a closely related occupation, for at least three of the four years immediately before applying. = 10 points

Applicants who nominate a 40, 50 or 60 point occupation and who have worked in an occupation on the Skilled Occupations List for at least three of the four years immediately before applying = 5 points


SPOUSE SKILLS (Regional Only)

5 points if your Spouse meets the basic requirements of age, job, occupation and recent work experience.


BONUS POINTS

5 Points can be claimed only once for one of the following:

* Capital Investment in Australia;
* Australian Skilled Work Experience; or
* Fluency in one of Australias major community languages, other than English


OCCUPATION IN DEMAND

20 points for applicants whose nominated occupation is included on the Migration Occupations in Demand List (MODL) and who have a job offer for full-time employment in Australia in that occupation.

15 points for applicants whose nominated occupation is on the MODL but who do not have a job offer in that occupation.


REGIONAL AUSTRALIA

You locate to a regional area of Australia – 10 points I think


AUSTRAILIAN QUALIFICATIONS

The following points can be claimed for study in Australia with an additional 5 points if you studied in a designated area of Australia.

15 Points = Completed a PHD at an Australian University (min of 2 years full time study)

10 Points = Completed Honors Degree or higher (min of 2 years full time study)

5 Points = Completed at least 2 years full time study towards the award of a degree, diploma or trade qualification


SPONSORED BY A RELATIVE

If you are sponsored by a relative who is an Australian Citizen or has been a permanent resident of 2 years or more = 15 points

The applicant or their spouce must be related to the sponsor as either a non dependent child, parent, brother, sister, niece or nephew.


SKILLED DESIGNATED AREA SPONSORED

The Australian Government is seeking skilled migrants to settle in certain designated areas of Australia.

This is the Visa for those who would like to join your family living in a designated area of Australia but do not have enough points.You or your spouse must be related to your sponsor and they must have lived in a designated area of Australia for the 12 months preceeding your application.

The Designated Skilled Austrlian Sponsored Visa is not points-tested but you still need to pass the basic requirments and have an assurer. An assurer is a person living in Australia who agrees to provide financial support (if necessary) so that you do not have to rely upon the Government (The assurer and sponsor can be the same person).

Currently all parts of Australia except Sydney, Newcastle, Wollongong, Perth and Brisbane are designated areas.


SKILL MATCHING

The Skill matching Visa is not points tested but you still need to pass the basic requirements.

Your details are held in a central database for upto 2 years for possible nomination by a State or Territory government or employer.

If you are not nominated within this time your application will be rejected.
